A robotic laboratory technician has been developed. In an article by Born to Engineer, the machine can move around a laboratory and perform pre-set experiments 1,000 times faster than a human.
The increase in speed is largely due to the ability to work without breaks, seven days a week, 22 hours a day (with two hours to recharge).
The best use of the machine would be for monotonous, repetitive tasks. It could also work in the dark, navigating by laser.
However, a downside is the robot cannot be programmed with new tasks.
The team that developed the robot published their findings in the journal Nature.
