Tesla breezes past 400-mile barrier

Tesla has produced the first electric car capable of driving more than 400 miles (640km) between charges.

This represents a 20% increase in range on the 2019 model with the same battery design, and more than a 50% increase on the original 2012 model.

Primarily the range improvement was achieved with mass reduction, improved wheels and tyres, and improvements to the drive unit efficiency. Tesla set out the details in this blog post.

The US Environmental Protection Agency rating of 402 miles was given to the company’s upgraded Model S Long Range on 15 June.
