India’s space agency launched the country’s first privately built rocket last week. According to Space Daily, the half-tonne Vikram-S rocket launched before midday local time and travelled in an arc, live footage from the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) showed.
The Vikram-S has a mass of 545kg and stands 6m high. It was developed by Skyroot Aerospace and launched from the India Space Research Organisation’s launch facility on the southern island of Sriharikota. The sub-orbital rocket reached a peak altitude of 90km, then splashed down in the sea six minutes after launch.
