Tallest onshore wind tower unveiled

A Danish wind turbine manufacturer developed the world’s tallest onshore tower. The 199m tower was designed with Central Europe in mind. The height makes up for the typically constrained site footprints. According to OGV Energy, the height should allow the turbine to access the stronger and more consistent winds that are higher up.

Manufacturer Vestas Wind Systems also recently completed its 7.2MW V172 turbine, a 12% increase on its earlier 6.2MW V162. The tower, which was produced in collaboration with German construction group Max Bögl, was designed for this new turbine.

The turbine was designed to be able to deliver lower power ratings of 6.8MW and 6.5MW so that it is still applicable in lower wind conditions.
