Translucent phone hopes to be a force in the market

A company has launched a phone with an extremely unique design. The Nothing 1 designed by London-based tech company Nothing consists of a translucent back that contains LED lights. These lights act as a signal as to whether the owner of the phone has a notification or not.

According to an article on BBC News, over 200,000 pre-order requests for the phone have been received by the company, with the price of the phone totalling to £399.

The creator of the Nothing 1 Carl Pei told BBC News that he wanted to “make tech fun again”, though others are dubious as to whether this particular handset will become a rival to other handsets made by much larger and established smartphone producers.

“The smartphone market is frighteningly competitive and is dominated by Apple and Samsung, who have incredible resources,” said Ben Wood from CCS Insight, who are a market researching company.

“The rest of the addressable market is a firefight between numerous Chinese manufacturers desperate to grab share, making it even harder for a new entrant to break into the segment. Add in the current macroeconomic situation and cost-of-living pressure, and it means being successful will be a huge challenge.”

Looking to the future, Mr Pei is aiming to collaborate with Tesla.
