More than 200 GW of new offshore wind projects were announced in 2021, growing total capacity (including projects in development) by 89%. The numbers were published in a report by the Renewables Consulting Group.

Brazil overtook the UK to lead the world with 97,421 MW all in development as of 1 April 2022. The UK dropped to second with 10,471 MW operational, 9,879 MW secured and 63,228 MW in development.

China has the most operational capacity at 16,456 MW, of which 8 GW was installed in 2021. Vietnam also has a large pipeline with 65,582 MW in development
