Mercedes to showcase all-electric emergency services fleet

Mercedes-Benz will show off an all-electric fleet for the first time the RETTmobil trade fair this year. In doing so the company said it aims to showcase the importance of sustainable vehicle solutions in the electromobile industry.

RETTmobil is the European exhibition for rescue and mobility.

Of particular note is the eSprinter created from a collaboration between Mercedes and its partner Ambulanz Mobile GmbH & Co. KG. The van had been designed to function in city and urban environments. The materials used to produce the vehicle are weight-saving whilst remaining high-quality, meaning that the van, despite the necessary equipment in the patient compartment, does not exceed 3.5t. The engine battery has quick charging capabilities and does not connect to the medical equipment, which uses a separate battery. This ensures that engine charge can be reserved for driving.

The eVito Tourer and EQC 400 4MATIC are also on show as emergency doctor vehicles. The newer, eVito consists of an efficient electric motor that can achieve a range of 370km whilst retaining quick charging capabilities. Despite both being equipped with essential medical equipment, the 400 4MATIC has the upper hand on the former. Launched as the first in the Mercedes-EQ series in 2019, the 4MATIC boasts high driving dynamics, enhanced noise comfort and has the benefit of extensive charging services. The two electric motors, located on the front and rear axles, output more power than the eVito, giving the 4MATIC a higher range of 421-462km.

As the world moves towards innovative sustainable technology becoming the norm for vehicles, so must the emergency services. The advances made by Mercedes show positive progress in this department.
