An app and website has been created that uses artificial intelligence (AI) to allow users to produce and create a song from scratch.

According to an article on BBC News, Boomy, which was launched in 2018, claims to have created nearly five million songs with its users. In addition, tracks can be submitted to streaming services such as Spotify, which in turn allows for money to be made for writers of songs via the app.

“Eighty-five per cent of our users have never made music before, and now we’ve got people who were paying their rent, and augmenting their income, with $100 (£74) or $200 a month from Boomy during Covid,” said Alex Mitchell, founder of Boomy.

When starting to write a song, Boomy asks users to pick a genre of music. Once that has been selected, the AI then constructs a song in less than 30 seconds. From there, instruments can be added and tempo can be altered. There is even the option to record your own vocals if you wish.

Mitchell says that over 100,000 songs have been published to streaming services via Boomy.
