McD’s turns to IBM for voice activation help

If at first if you don’t succeed, then turn the problem over to someone else who can make it right.

International burger giant McDonald’s is giving up on developing a voice-activated ordering system to its restaurants and instead, turning it over to another giant, IBM, to figure out.

McDonald’s was hoping to create a system which would allow it to take orders at take-out windows in different languages and accents. To do this, in 2019 McDonald’s bought Apprente, which had developed an early-stage version of what McDonald’s wanted, and formed McD Tech Labs.

As part of the deal, McDonald’s will be selling its McD Tech Labs to IBM which should accelerate the development of automated order taking – AOT, according to Restaurant Business.
