The shortlist for the 2026 Engineering Matters Awards has been decided. The awards celebrate work in engineering that impacts on key sustainable development goals. This year’s awards saw a record number of nominations, with more than 50 entries selected for the shortlist. These shortlisted entries will be detailed in episodes of Engineering Matters in 2026, with dedicated episodes on each of the gold champions.
Engineering with an impact on people
Three categories in this year’s awards celebrate the impact that engineering has on people and communities. The Community category focuses on the role engineers can play in their wider community. The Diversity and Inclusion category looks at how engineers can attract a more diverse workforce to the sector, and ensure that their work has inclusive benefits. And the Health and Safety category considers how engineers can make sure that everyone is safe in their workplace, and as members of the public.
