World’s tallest 3D printed building complete

A three-storey house that stands at 9.9m has been completed and is the world’s tallest 3D printed building. Using the BOD2 construction 3D printer the building was completed in Saudi Arabia passing the previous record holder, another three-storey building in Germany.

The BOD2 printer is used on site to build the house, unlike most previous 3D printed construction projects which print smaller parts off site before they are brought onsite for a final construction process.

The house is made from local low-cost material, the total cost of the building supplies was just £10,000. It has 345m2 of living space and the local real estate company that built it, Dar Al Arkan, is already planning to create more 3D printed homes.

The 3D printed building is located in Shams Al Riyadh, a development project with 12,000km2 of land.

3D construction manager at Dar Al Arkan, Wael Al Hagen said, “We are currently building the second villa, which will typically take a month to complete, but we’ve already finished the first floor of 130m2 in only eight days. This 3D printed villa has additional insulation layers and features that ensure energy conservation, saving up to 30% in energy consumption.”
