Crystal Palace Football Club’s revised plans for a new £100 million main stand have received approval from Croydon Council. Plans were originally approved four years ago but Covid and new London planning requirements led to adjustments.
The new main stand at Selhurst Park will increase the stadium’s capacity from 26,000 to 34,000. The plan had been passed to London Mayor Sadiq Khan for final approval at the time of writing.
Once final approval is received Crystal Palace will move forward with the acquisition of six local houses and finalise negotiations with a local supermarket to acquire the necessary surrounding land to complete the new main stand.
Crystal Palace chairman Steve Parish said, “I would like to thank Croydon Council for their continued support for the stadium redevelopment, which will bring substantial investment into the borough, as well as breathing new life into Selhurst Park. We are looking forward to getting started on the project. There is a lot of preparatory work to be done in the coming months and we will update on a likely timetable in due course.”
The new main stand design will pay homage to Crystal Palace’s original home on Sydenham Hill and the redevelopment will also provide the local area with new year-round community facilities.
