Airbus to launch UK hydrogen technology centre

Airbus has founded a Zero Emission Development Centre (ZEDC) in the UK to develop hydrogen technologies.

A spokesperson for Airbus said, “A priority for the UK ZEDC will be the development of a cost-competitive cryogenic fuel system required for the successful entry-into-service of Airbus’ ZEROe passenger aircraft by 2035.”

The ZEROe is a project to produce the world’s first zero-emission commercial aircraft.

Airbus stated that it also aims to increase the UK workforce skilled in hydrogen propulsion technologies.

Airbus will partner with the Aerospace Technology Institute (ATI) to benefit from the skills and knowledge of the ATI. The ATI will receive £685 million in government funding over the next three years.
