AI pinpoints hidden heart disease

Hospitals in the UK are to use a piece of AI technology that can detect hidden signs of heart disease.

The CaRi-Heart tool is able to pinpoint inflammation and other heart problems that are undetectable when just using routine computer-assisted tomography (Cat) scanning technology according to an article on BBC News.

A total of 15 hospitals around the country have been offered the technology, with the NHS hoping that that it can benefit up to 350,000 patients every year.

“The beauty of our technology is that it will not only save countless lives but it is incredibly simple,” said Dr Cheerag Shirodaria, who worked on the project and who was a former researcher at the British Heart Foundation.

“CaRi-Heart analysis can be undertaken on any Cat heart scan, hospitals don’t need to change equipment and patients don’t need another test. It fits perfectly with a physician’s workflow.”
