US Army researches aim-enhancing device

The US Army is assessing and experimenting with a new gun device that increases a soldier’s aim.

According to an article on Task & Purpose, the Aim Control Enhancer (ACE) is being evaluated to be a part of the US Army’s Next Generation Squad Weapon effort after previously being developed by US Special Operations Command for their Tactical Assault Light Operator Suit (TALOS), which has now been abandoned.

For the technology to succeed, the device is simply attached to the Picatinny rail, which is a common component with the majority of military rifles.

“I can prevent the barrel from moving in ways I don’t want it to,” said Matt Angle, an electrical engineer and original developer of the ACE.

“Basically, you grab the device, and there’s a mechanical linkage system that keeps the barrel still in certain ways. It doesn’t automatically aim, but the whole thing is closer to image stabilization in a camera lens — as your hand shakes, the system moves to keep the barrel still.”
