Supersonic prototype schedules first flight

A demonstrator for a supersonic passenger jet will roll out of the workshop on 7 October 2020. Its first flight is scheduled for 2021.

The manufacturer, Boom Technology, is a US start-up that aims to produce a Mach 2.2 capable passenger jet called Overture by 2023. It is expected to be able to carry 55 passengers and have a range of over 8,000km.

The prototype aircraft is named XB-1 and is built to 1/3 scale.

The company has put effort into sustainable production, partnering with another start-up, the alternative fuel developer Prometheus Fuels to deliver low-carbon fuel during the XB-1 programme. The company claims a 100% carbon-neutral test programme.
